A consultative workshop on ‘The political economy and governance of river sand commodity chains in Ethiopia’, organized by Jimma University and the Conflict Research Group at Ghent University, was held at Jimma University in Ethiopia on Thursday the 30th of May 2024. In the presence of Professor Netsanet Workineh, Vice President for Research and Community Service of Jimma University, experts and stakeholders discussed the political economy, governance, and socio-ecological implications of river sand commodity chains in Ethiopia. The workshop with presentations by Siyum Adugna Mamo and Bert Suykens highlighted better governance of river sand commodity chains in Ethiopia to reduce the socio-ecological implications of sand extraction and ensure sustainability.
